Creativity is Good for the Soul
I have been wanting to change this yellow wall since we first moved to our house.
Creativity is not my strong suit and I couldn’t envision the space, so I did nothing for two years. Fortunately, I have friends who do have the touch for design. One friend easily picked out a color that worked with the cabinets and backsplash and made the room more bright and airy.
It is amazing what comes so simple to her seems so overwhelming to me.
I bought the sample paint, loved the new look and knew there was no turning back. As I started painting a few nights ago I was immediately reminded of how much of a stress reliever painting is for me.
The actual painting process (not the preparation, mess during or clean up!) is relaxing to me.
I put on music, don’t have to think about anything (except not getting paint on the trim and ceiling) and watch the area transform before my eyes. I love the feeling of purpose and accomplishment…not to mention the benefit of a more peaceful space!
Painting seems to be good for my soul.
Art therapy is an effective tool used for mental health treatment, but is also important for wellness.
Nurturing your creative side is wonderful for the soul and your overall wellness.
One of the books that got ruined during our basement flooding was The Artist’s Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity, by Julia Cameron . I read it as a teenager when it first came out and it is still an international bestseller.
“With the basic principle that creative expression is the natural direction of life, Julia Cameron and Mark Bryan lead you through a comprehensive twelve-week program to recover your creativity from a variety of blocks, including limiting beliefs, fear, self-sabotage, jealousy, guilt, addictions, and other inhibiting forces, replacing them with artistic confidence and productivity.”
If you feel like you are in need of a more guided way to nurturing your soul, this book may be worth looking into!
