“Everybody has different feelings….”
The day after I wrote (& vented!) in this post about the challenges and feelings about parenthood, I caught my daughter singing this song she wrote about feelings:)
Everybody has Different Feelings
by Caitlin, age 5
Everybody has different feelings about different things.
Like crazy or silly or sad or mad or happy.
Everybody has different feelings about different things.
Sometimes we have accidents and we have different feelings.
We always have different feelings.
We have different feelings.
We can be crazy or silly or mad or sad or happy.
Everybody has different feelings about different things!
She has been into singing lately and I love how this one was about feelings! It was also a great reminder on the importance of acknowledging and embracing your many different feelings.
We love being happy and positive, but some days we will be crazy or silly or mad or sad.
It’s also important to let others feel whatever emotions they are feeling. Often we have a tendency to want to change how other people are feeling. “Don’t be sad.” “Be happy.” “Cheer up!” “Don’t cry!” “Do NOT get angry!!” “How can you be upset about that little thing?!”
While it’s great to be positive & supportive, you don’t want to negate anyone’s feelings, especially the little ones in our lives. Remember: everybody has different feelings!
I think it’s really important to try understand our emotions and not bury them inside. Last summer, I wrote about the importance of embracing your feelings & why I encourage my boys to cry and share healthy tools for dealing with emotions.
I have a feeling I will be singing, “Everybody has different feelings….” all day 🙂
Lots of Love, Gratitude & a Multitude of Other Feelings,
Molly
