The Key Ingredient to Behavior Change

Since I began this blog in February, I feel pretty good about the changes I have made for my wellbeing. It is definitely an evolving process. Most of the time, I feel like I take two steps forward and then one step back. But, when I get discouraged, I like to remind that at least I am still moving forward!
Lately, I have found myself reverting to bad behaviors (primarily mentally and emotionally – see below). For me it’s a natural reaction to beat myself up for the way I act, instead of forgiving myself and moving forward. It is definitely something that needs to change.
One key ingredient during the evolving process of behavior change is to remember to love yourself unconditionally. When you love yourself, you will forgive yourself when you take a step back or have a bad day. Once you forgive yourself, it is much easier to stay positive and keep moving forward.
My goal is for my natural reaction to lapses or mistakes to be unconditional love, not beating myself up.
The changes I have made with nutrition have really made a difference in how I feel physically. All of the things I have done have been simple changes that have led to more changes. I have a completely different outlook on what goes into my body that I did 4 months ago. I will share with you soon! 🙂
Exercise is also a key ingredient to my wellbeing. I have known this since I was a teenager and probably before. I was always busy with sports, so being active was a part of my life. As a teenager, I can remember being in a bad mood and my Mom would make me go for a run. I would always feel better and come back in positive spirits.
The positive effect exercise has on me is still true in my life now, probably even more. However, with 3 little ones I have done a horrible job of making it a priority. I am very active with them, but I have found that although being active definitely helps, I need exercise for myself. I need the alone time. I need the mental boost that goes along it. This is my next step and I need to remind myself daily to Just Do It!
A few of the mental and emotional improvements I am still working on are –
- Having complete unconditional love of myself
- Gaining confidence and getting rid of doubt
- Improving my self-esteem
- Staying positive and leaving negativity behind
- Being aware of my stress levels and controlling my reactions (e.g. Negativity!)
- Being aware of how I make others feel
- Feeling and projecting unconditional love for others, especially those closest to me
There are always things we can do to make ourselves better and sometimes it can seem overwhelming when there are a lot of changes that need to be made. All we can do is to take it one step at a time and continue loving ourselves in the process!
Accountability also helps – one of my reasons for sharing my goals. So – thank you for your support! If you need accountability, also, please feel free to share your goals here!
Love,
Molly
